Mikado Logo 700 XXTREME - Tail bevel shimming and maintainance

After some flights the tail case bearings naturally sit in and there is some free play on the tail bevel gear.
For the Logo 700 XXtreme tail assembly maintenance is easy.

Remove the 3 screws which holds the tail chassis and pop out the tail chassis.

Depending on your tail bevel free play, you will require to add one or two 0.5 mm shims.

For my tail assembly, one 0.5 mm shim and some plastic safe grease was sufficient to the line the bevel gears perpendicular for good gear meshing.

I Check the bevel mesh again, this time it is perfect or close to perfect, not forgetting to apply thread locker on the 3 screw sockets before reassembly.

Mikado Vbar Control - Antenna support

Mikado has this cool antenna support, that is light and puts the antenna out of the canopy for good transmission.
It comes in flat mounting and boom mounting options.

The antennas slots in nicely.

The flat profile gives ample clearance from the canopy.

Mikado Logo 700 XXTREME - Default flight

I flew the Logo 700 XXtreme today with VBar Control on default settings - Loaded VBar Control default logo 700 model from Setup Wizard.
The default settings are very stable and locked in, not twitchy at all, so no worries. The cyclic\tail rates are low and might need to be increased for aerobatic flights.
* VBar swash setup geometry at 8.0 Degrees setup default (I tried this first, increasing it might increase your overall cyclic rates, but might cause blade stall on high pitch inputs).

At 1900 rpm with loading, Current(I) peaked at 120A. For me at 1900 rpm and +-12 collective pitch, the logo 700 XXtreme is able to perform all aerobatic maneuvers that i can do, and it is where the tail authority really kicked in! I did not require higher head speed, unless sound stimulation is preferred, but to each pilot's liking.

The AUW weight might be a concern for some, but the Logo 700 Xxtreme feels very accurate with the VBar, it flies XXtremely locked in and predictable. It has good weight distribution, geometry, gear ratios and balance. Drive train is smooth like butter and produces a nice sound to the ears. Do not be fooled by the lower rpm sound, because of it's large mass, high torque and longer blades, it flies fast!

SLS XTron Lithium polymer batteries - Lipo Cell internal Resistance.

After a 3 cycles, i am getting 1.2 mOhms IR on the SLS Xtron 40C batts, this is the lowest i have ever seen!!! Using the same charger i got 1.8 mOhms IR on premium brand lipo packs and 3.5 mOhms IR on budget lipo brands.

GoPro - Hero 4 silver edition

Got the GoPro action video camera and the head strap accessory.
Its the Hero 4 silver edition.
The GoPro studio with protune is a really easy way to make high quality videos!
A  case for the GoPro. The original GoPro head strap is actually very comfortable when worn on the head. Feels like a soft hat.

Vbar Control Setup and features

Loading the model configuration to the VBAR for the first time after firmware upgrade. Checking out the new features.

If mikado helicopter models are used, the setup is strait forward and easy.

Integrated for the Mikado OEM YGE XXTREME 160A ESC, all parameters come pre-configured.
My Scorpion motor has 10 poles, Sensor config is number of motor poles divided by 2

Selection of tail servo frequency and pulse band, only after preset then i plug in the tail servo. This is to prevent damage to tail servo due to incorrect pulse band.

Besides the timer and model selection. Telemetry provides live receiver voltage, head speed and an optional  UI sensor power meter

Pre and post flight diagnostics are great, checking for initialization, servo and sensor failures.

The link power monitor can display the signal strength for interference and transmission issues.

When the model is in operation, the vibration spectrum analyzer provides insight for bearing maintenance and unbalanced parts.

At the end of it don't forget to check the vbar sensor orientation and blade pitch before flight.

Mikado Vbar control UI sensor

The Vbar Control comes with telemetry abilities that monitor receiver and servo bus voltage.

This is an additional component that enables the Vbar Control with the ability of monitoring the max output current, discharged current capacity and motor drive battery voltage. The VBar control can then analyze the values and warn the pilot for low capacity and low voltage. Preset of these values is also possible with audible alarms. It prevents the pilot from over discharging the motor drive batteries!

Adding some non-conductive epoxy to reinforce the micro connector plugs.
